Hankelow Amenities Group - Annual Report - June 2010 to May 2011

Annual report from Val Morrey - Chair of the Group

16th May 2011

This time last year we had just had a Village History Walk, which was well attended and certainly any newcomers to the village found the afternoon very interesting.

Our Summer Fete on Sunday June 13th was a great success. Even though the weather was not so kind to us we still did really well and were able to give a donation of £500 to the RSPCA and £500 to the Macmillan Cancer Support. We also gave donations of £60 each to Musicland in Market Drayton and the Friends of Audlem School Association. A donation of £150 went to Hankelow Methodist Church.

We had a cake stall at the Audlem Carnival and provided refreshments for the Festival of Transport on the village green, which helped us with expenses for the fete. We were also able to buy a new speaker system.

We organised a visit to Hankelow Hall, by kind invitation from Mr and Mrs Shenton, on July 18th. About 60 people attended.

We had a Sports Day and Barbeque on Sunday September 5th. The afternoon was a great success and a number of people stayed for a barbecue.

45 people attended our visit to Hodnet Hall Gardens on September 12th. The weather was lovely and everyone enjoyed the afternoon.

The Autumn Supper was held at the Hankelow Cottage on October 11th. 56 people attended. It was agreed that the meal was very nice and that the restaurant looked after everyone very well.

Carols on the Green on December 13th was attended by over 50 people, and the evening was a great success. We were able to give a donation of £100 to Rosebank Special School in Northwich, which has links with the village.

As soon as we entered the New Year we began to plan our events for 2011. Our Village Fete will be held on Sunday June 12th . The afternoon will begin at 1.15 p.m. with the Audley Brass Band. The Dig it Dog Display Team have been booked again this year, along with the Audlem School Maypole Dancers and the Musicland musicians from Market Drayton. There will be lots of stalls and sports and games for all ages. The charities we are supporting this year are Christie's Hospital and Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre.

To help fund the fete Ian Jones and helpers took the football game to the Highfields Gala last weekend. We will also be having a cake stall at Audlem Carnival on May 30th, plus the football game. The fete always has a lovely atmosphere with lots of comrnunity spirit and we look forward to seeing you all there.

With more events to be arranged for the rest of the year we hope for your continued support.
